International Break part 3: Spanish Football So Far

Barcelona was held 2-2 by Europa League sensation Villarreal, Atletico Madrid was beaten 2-1 by Sporting Gijon and Real Madrid smashed the Europa League defending champions Sevilla 4-0 last weekend. But the La Liga big three still stand the way it was before. La Liga leaders Barca streched the gap to 9 points with second place Atletico, while third place Madrid are getting closer to Atletico by cutting the gap to one point.

Three teams from Spain; Barca, Atletico and Madrid, have managed to reach the Champions League quarter-finals. While three others; Sevilla, Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao, are now in Europa League quarters.

In Copa del Rey, Barca will face Sevilla in the final. Both teams have met in UEFA Super Cup as they both are champions of Europe. Barca won 5-4 on extra time in that one off game.
